Detailed Directions, Phone, Email

We are overjoyed that you have found this wonderful opportunity to experience La Quebrada Del Amor.  First, please look at our beautiful pictures and description of the unique offering in the post below titled "Life at La Quebrada".

Here's a more detailed set of directions:
Once in Iquitos get a moto to Puerto Nanay (Boat Port Nanay).  This should not be more than 3 soles.  From there  take a boat to Padre Cocha, they will probably try to charge you 8 soles but don't pay more than 3 soles (1.50 soles is the local price).  It's a 20 minute boat ride. There is a butterfly sanctuary in Padre Cocha that tourists sometimes like to go to.  If you get off at the main port at Padre Cocha and walk straight through the square.  You are going to walk straight on this road for 25 minutes.  Probably halfway down there will be a bridge (i think with red roof)  on your left.  Swerve off the trail onto this path and go across the bridge.  Continue for another 15 minutes.  There will be a soccer field on the right.. keep going...  direct you.  Your going to pass a sign that says "Mama Ukka" on your left after she soccer field.  Keep going straight for another couple minutes.  Then there is a little Y.  The littler path to the Left is the path to their property.  If you have walked for more than an hour, you may have made a wrong turn.  Backtrack and you may see someone that can direct you. If you see anyone, it might help to ask " Donde esta La Quebrada del Amor?"  "The riverbend of love".  Or  La Familia Tangoa.
If your Spanish is good over the phone and have reason to call ahead, use Skype and dial (+51) 65616748 and someone from the family in the village should be able to talk with you.  This is costly for them though, so please limit your conversation.  We will check our email gaianpath@gmail.com every few days to respond to travelers interested in visiting and helping, so if you have any questions we are happy to respond.  They welcome all with open and loving hearts.
ENJOY!!!

Life at La Quebrada

La Quebrada Del Amor (The Riverbend of Love) is a safe place to experience camping in the Amazon Jungle under the care of the Tangoa Family.  Staying at La Quebrada is an authentic and meaningful way to experience indigenous life in the Amazon.  It is entirely off the beaten path and unlike anything you will find in a tourist book.

Their incredible knowledge of medicinal plants will inspire you.  Take a hike through the jungle to learn about how they use nature's resources.

Climb vines up into the canopy with the Tangoa boys!

Cool off in La Quebrada and prepare traditional jungle cuisine!

They are developing a center for education and cultural exchange so that they no longer have to cut down their rainforest to produce charcoal or send their boys off to the military.  They are focused on sustaining their way of life and sharing their indigenous wisdom with anyone interested.

There is no cost to staying at La Quebrada del Amor.  We only ask that you leave a financial or material donation, or contribute in other creative ways.   For instance, we  financed and built a cabana with the family so that they can host more travelers.
La Casita Corazon Verde (The Little Greenheart House) is dedicated to volunteers that plan to teach the family English, help construct more cabanas, and enjoy the beautiful jungle life.
Everyone helps out at La Quebrada Del Amor, including the children!
There is a wealth of seeds and bones to create your own authentic Amazonian jewelry.
Connecting with the land is a delight, it's a natural playground.
The Tangoa's are like family to us, and we hope that you can help support their effort to create a sustainable future for their extended family and teach you about the way of the selva.

There's even an animal sanctuary and butterfly reserve just minutes through the jungle for you to get to know the animal kingdom of the Amazon.

Directions:

From Iquitos, Peru take a mototaxi to Puerto Nanay so you can take a ferryboat to Padre Cocha.  The boat ride should only cost 3 soles if you take the public boat (avoid private boats that tell you it's 10 or 15 soles).
You'll arrive at the port in Padre Cocha and need to walk straight through the town on the main street, and into the jungle.  Everyone knows where La Quebrada del Amor is, ask around until someone will escort you the 25 minute walk to get there.  Also, you can ask for Rider Tangoa's house in the village and one of the family members should be there to greet you.

What to bring:
-Tent
-Food - Bring food to contribute.  Meals are often communally prepared and enjoyed.
-Spanish- The Tangoa's currently do not understand English, but they are very eager to learn.  But they do understand body language, you can get by with gestures if your jungle Spanish is iffy.
